Festive Sydney gets creative
Creative Sydneysiders have a chance to let their true colours fly, with new events announced as part of the inaugural Creative Sydney festival.
Launching in late May, the festival will celebrate the strength of the city’s creative talents.
Geoff Parmenter, CEO of Events NSW said: “The festival features many free events that will engage the community with the arts and the city’s creative industries.”
Creative industries include music, design, architecture, gaming, photography, performance, writing, radio, film, TV, advertising and visual arts.
Over three weeks from May 27, the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Foundation Hall will be home to the Creative Sydney event series featuring talks, performances and exhibitions showcasing the local creative industries.
The festival will then shift its focus to the Creative Futures conference, to be held at the Sydney Opera House. It will feature local and international artistic minds of the future and discussions will focus on the opportunities and challenges that the creative industries will face in 2009 and beyond.
The creative industries of Sydney employ five per cent of the NSW total workforce. The Creative Sydney Festival aims to put the spotlight on what is considered an abundant resource in terms of employment and what the arts contribute culturally to Sydney.
“We have some of the city’s best creative minds working on this festival
and we are confident that in time, Vivid Sydney will attract the
same level of international attention as the City’s New Year’s Eve
celebrations on Sydney Harbour,” said Mr Parmenter.
To support the Creative Sydney events and conference, the Creative Catalysts project will be launched simultaneously. The project will see the formation of 100 Sydneysiders who have initiated something new and original from within their creative field. From film makers to bloggers, Creative Catalysts will expose Sydney’s most talented and inspiring individuals.
Creative Sydney’s full program and the Creative Catalyst list will be launched in April.
