A man in his late 70s has been taken to hospital following a shooting in an office building in Sydney’s CBD on Wednesday afternoon.

Police say they have a man in his mid-70s in custody. One shot was fired, and police have the firearm in evidence.

A crime scene has since been established on Castlereagh Street near the Sydney Fire and Rescue station.

Paramedics treated the victim, who was shot in the groin, at the scene, and then transported him to to St Vincent’s Hospital in Darlinghurst.

He is reportedly in a stable condition.

Members of the public reportedly restrained the shooter until police arrived, with nearby office workers giving the victim first aid.

Some buses have been diverted and some parts of Castlereagh Street closed off.

“There is no further ongoing threat to the community,” police said in a statement.
