A landlord allowed its young renters to paint the inside walls of their leased Dover Heights house and stage a ‘pop-up’ art show.

Bands and cabaret acts performed with an eclectic backdrop of art from local artists, mainly from the surrounding beach suburbs.

Dubbed the “Mansion Pop Up Art Show”, entry was by invitation only with the organisers not wanting the party to get out of hand.

Pop-up events have been springing up all over Sydney as restaurants, shops and galleries take advantage of the novelty of being seasonal and temporary.

These events are also giving newcomers a chance to shine in industries that often take years to break into.

The Dover Heights show was the brainchild of young Bondi artist Jaclyn Underwood.

Her friends live in the house and had told her that the landlord was happy for them to do anything to the house as it will eventually be demolished.

A group of young artists and musicians live in the house with many of them studying at art schools like the College of Fine Arts.

“Having art all around me is a part of my life,” said householder Abe.

One of the local contributors said that it was “wonderful to have a something to focus on to finish my art.”

These events are going on all over Sydney with most of the promotions for shows happening by word of mouth or online, so keep your ear to the ground art-lovers.
