DON’T YOU HAVE DOCS?

Live music is fresh, by necessity whipped up on the spot from the right ingredients of pitch, rhythm, and guts. But what if you want to take it away with you in a little container for later? That’s the concept behind The Take-Away Shows, an online film series that yanks musos off stages, strips them of their amplifiers, and then plonks them in an unexpected and usually pleasantly surprising space – field, elevator, even brothel. It’s been a hit (so much so it spawned a Sydney version, Shoot the Player) and so for FBi’s first documentary series it’s a natural fit that doco collective Don’t You Have Headphones? handpicks a selection of the best collisions of film and sound. For the benefit of FBi Social’s big screen and beer on tap, this Take-Away Show is more of an eat-in affair, with shorts featuring legend Tom Jones, folkstrel Sufjan Stevens, electro-poppers Yeasayer and more on the menu. If you like what you see keep your eyes peeled for the next instalment in the documentary series. (AB)
