Dancing round the Altar
He was an orphan from the other side of the tracks, but now Juan’s hip-swivelling moves make the girls go wild.
With his tight leather pants and shirt wide open, Sydney performer Jeremey Brennan plays one of five larger-than-life dancers in a fictitious Christian boy-band at the centre of the critically acclaimed West End musical, Altar Boyz.
And with no complaints about his wardrobe, Jeremy’s loving every minute of it.
As a seasoned composer, singer, and actor, he has been involved with over 40 musicals, television shows, music videos, songs, and theatre.
Having successfully graduated from NIDA ten years ago, Jeremy’s covered everything – from Romeo in a New Zealand take on Shakespeare’s famous Romeo and Juliet, to the creator of popular family entertainment act The Dandy Lionz.
But now, he joins four other talented Australian actors as they perform the last night of their national “Raise the Praise” tour in this hilarious musical comedy.
Unlike Juan, lead singer Matthew (played by Cameron MacDonald) has a heart of a saint, along with Mark (a sensitive young man with a deep faith in Cher), Luke (a bad-boy with a strong “interest” in communion wine), and Abraham (a nice Jewish homeboy from the temple down the street who’s not quite sure how he ended up here . . . though his mother would like to know).
As they perform their signature hits, including “Jesus called me on my cell phone” and “Girl, you make me wanna wait”, plenty of soul-wrenching secrets come tumbling out with hilarious results.
The show is currently enjoying its fourth record-breaking year as one of the most successful off-Broadway musicals in London.
Altar Boyz will be playing from June 11 to August 2 at the Seymour Centre, Cnr Cleveland St & City Rd, Chippendale. Tickets: $44-$55. Bookings 9351 7940 or www.ticketmaster.com.au
