DANCE: BALE DE RUA

The Parisians were aghast, as all shows were sold out! The Edinburgh festival-goers were brought to their feet with passionate applause, critics there gave it an almighty thumbs up and in London, the show was extended. Now Balé de Rua pulsates its way to the Sydney Opera House early January and aims to exhilarate and heat up the height of the summer with a high-energy explosive celebration of life and love Brazilian style. Fernando Narduchi, co-founder and Artistic Director of Balé de Rua, explained what inspired the show. “When I founded Balé de Rua with Marco Antônio and José Marciel 17 years ago, the company set out to form a new style of dance and to become professionals, making a living from our art. I´m a dreamer, I still believe in the human being and in a better world. For me art is freedom and love.” A cultural cocktail of Capoeira, African dance, hip-hop, samba and live percussion, you’ll witness some truly mesmeric body movements. With a colourful cast of 15 street dancers this international festival hit will take you the closest you can get to the barios de carnivale without boarding a plane. You’ll be ‘dancing, dancing in your seats,’ if you are quick enough to reserve one that is!
