A crane has fallen at the construction site of the upcoming Sydney Fish Markets in Pyrmont, injuring one man.

Around midday Thursday, emergency services responded to reports of a fallen crane at the construction site on Bridge Road.

“A man was treated on scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition,” NSW Police told City Hub.

Construction workers have been seen evacuating the site, as emergency services attended to the site.

At the time, Live Sydney Traffic recorded one lane going eastbound on Bridge Road had closed, urging drivers to take caution.

Following the incident, NSW Police says Safe Work NSW will further investigate the incident and circumstances surrounding the crane falling.

Witnesses spoke to 2GB Radio following the incident. One said the fall “sliced” through the second level of the construction site scaffolding. Other witness also noted the fall had been contained within the construction site.

Construction has been apart of the awaited revamp of the Sydney Fish Markets, as a “world-class facility” with new dining, fresh-food shopping, and culinary school experiences.

Receiving $750 million from the NSW Government for the redevelopment, the facility is expected to open in 2024.
