CONCERT: WALKING ON AIR

CONCERT: WALKING ON AIR

PREVIEW BY AMELIA GROOM

Fourteen aeriel, contortionist and circus artists with be defying gravity at The Studio this week, for three nights only. As they float, tumble and twirl through the air, indie goddesses Bridezilla, Liz Martin and DJ Gemma will be providing a live soundtrack.

With a line-up of drums, guitar, violin and saxophone, Brizedilla have been getting a lot of attention for their dark but whimsical music. They nod to jazz and folk and are often compared to The Arcade Fire, The Dirty Three and The Velvet Underground, but they have a sound that is uniquely their own.

Former lead singer of the electronic outfit Spook, as a solo artist Liz Martin has spread her musical talent to blues, rock and pop music, and performed across Australia alongside the likes of Sigur Ros, Silverchair, The Black Keys and Paul Mac.

DJ Gemma is known for her eclectic blends of obscure and familiar tracks. She has spent the last 13 years running Club Kooky, a club night with a focus on local musicians and performances. She also hosts Club Arak, a regular queer event playing only Arabic music.

With the VJ collective Pixel Vision also creating luscious visual installations from film and flesh, Walking on Air will be a unique and enchanting concert experience. Highly recommended.
