CONCERT: THE MICHAEL NYMAN BAND

CONCERT: THE MICHAEL NYMAN BAND

Michael Nyman returns to Sydney this month for the first time in seven years to offer an engaging, one-night-only performance in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall. One of Britain’s most prolific and reputable composers of the twentieth century and beyond, Nyman first gained a reputation in the late 1960s as a participant and chronicler of the postwar musical avant-garde. Aside from penning an abundance of works for string quartets, concertos and operas throughout the years, wider audiences may be most familiar with Nyman’s innovative and celebrated scores for the films of Peter Greenaway as well as Jane Campion’s The Piano. For his Australian dates Nyman will draw from this memorable repertoire whilst accompanied by his seasoned ensemble, The Michael Nyman Band.
