COMEDY: TIM MINCHIN

COMEDY: TIM MINCHIN

Tim Minchin is like no other performer out there. Coming out of the ever-cool arts scene of Perth, his catchy vaudevillian style political songs have propelled him to fame here at home and in the UK. He returns to Sydney to repeat his most recent show Ready for This which sold out earlier this year. With his David Bowie (circa Labryinth) hair and enough geek chic charm to turn on any thinking girl or guy, it’s a shock to hear his protest at being uninteresting, “I’m boring, I mean I’m interesting if you like people who like books and jogging.” His good boy lifestyle (no drugs, fatherhood, and married to his high school sweetheart) heighten the bad boy rock and roller persona, manifest when he performs. “It’s funny to see someone looking like a rock-star and talking about rationalism, if I wore a suit and cut my hair and talked about rationalism, the tension would disappear.” And it’s this tension which makes him so entertaining, because Tim Minchin seems to be just like you, if you were cool, and funny and could play piano like a demon. Catch him at the State Theatre on the 5th of December and the 27th of February, and who knows, your laughter might end up on his next DVD.

Sat Dec 5, State Theatre, 49 Market St, Sydney, $45-49.95, ticketmaster.com.au
