CLOUD CONTROL

CLOUD CONTROL

Having well and truly conquered their home turf (Australia!) with their debut album, Blue Mountains four piece Cloud Control made the leap to the U.K. We chat with singer Al Wright about the move.

Where are you guys right now?

We’re in a van on the way to a rehearsal studio. Our sound tech has just lent me a new fuzz distortion pedal for my guitar that really I’m excited to try out!

There seems to be a disproportionate number of amazing bands coming out of the Blue Mountains these days – is there something in the water?

Yeah, well I think because it’s such a close community and there’s not a whole lot to do up there, that being creative is something fun to do. Everyone kind of knows each other up there so the creative scene is very close-knit.

I guess the cold would help with that…

Ha-ha, yeah lot’s of staying indoors and writing.

You guys have just relocated to the U.K. – there seems to be a trend with emerging bands to make that move and export back to Australia, why do you think that is?

Yeah well it’s been a great move for us and we’re really loving it – I think there’s a lot of support in other countries for Aussie artists, and artists in general, and the way the Australian scene works, you’re kind of more likely to succeed here if you’re part of the music coming in from those other countries.

So it feels like a good move?

Yeah, it definitely feels like the right thing to do, we’re really excited about it so far!

What’s next for Cloud Control?

We’re just focusing on releasing and touring the album in the U.K. and trying to make the most of that really. Hopefully we can keep coming back to Australia as much as possible.
