City’s floral outbreak

A stunning floral display will light up Sydney’s streets in a spectacular of 31,000 plants at 21 locations.
The Living Colour exhibition is intended to illustrate the City of Sydney’s pledge to create a greener and more global Sydney.
Far from the simple image boosting design of the floral displays during the Sydney Olympics, the City of Sydney have expanded the display for the first time outside the CBD.
‘The displays bring life and colour to hard surfaced areas of the City – where flowers aren’t otherwise seen.’ said a City of Sydney spokeswoman.
‘Sustainable Sydney 2030 display is also an advertisement for the City’s vision for the future.’
Lord Mayor Clover Moore said that Living Colour will contribute to the City’s continued bid for sustainability.
‘We’ll also be using an increasing number of perennial plants that will be replanted in City parks and gardens after the display, while thousands of others are donated to schools, community groups and local residents,’ she said.
The Lord Mayor said she hopes ‘Living Colour’ will help raise awareness among Sydney residents, that there is still a long way to go before the city is truly sustainable.
‘We hope the display will also encourage them to learn more about the Sustainable Sydney 2030 vision to make our City green, global and connected,’ Ms Moore said in a statement.
‘The directions in the strategy are a clear outcome of what people told us. They said they wanted Sydney to be green, global and connected ‘ a city for people and a global city.
‘All Australians have a stake and interest in Sydney and Sustainable Sydney 2030 is about addressing challenges, protecting our best attributes and working for a shared vision for the future,’ Ms Moore said.
The City of Sydney spokeswoman said she hopes that Living Colour will have a positive impact on both the people of Sydney and the economy.
‘Many are located in support of key retail precincts to encourage visitors who provide an economic benefit.’
