City projects – and Clover – receive architects’ awards

Six city projects have won awards and commendations at the Australian Institute of Architects’ NSW Architecture Awards.

The Surry Hills Library and Community Centre was the most-awarded project on the night. Other awards went to Paddington Reservoir Gardens, Pirrama Park and Redfern Park.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore herself received the President’s Award for Architecture and opened the ceremony.

“Architecture – or more precisely, the skill and insight of architects – is vital to our vision for Sydney,” she said.

“As an approval authority we aim for excellence and don’t just apply the rules.  We’ve sought expert advisers and have gained the services of industry-respected professionals.  Their leadership and expertise help us achieve sensitive, innovative and viable solutions on complex development sites.”

The Surry Hills Community Centre took three awards – the Public Architecture Award, the Milo Dunphy Award for Sustainable Architecture and the John Verge Award for Interior Architecture. Also winning multiple awards, and similarly embraced by the public, Paddington Reservoir Gardens won the Greenway Award for Heritage and Lloyd Rees Award for Urban Design.

Pirrama Park and Redfern Park and Oval won Urban Architecture Awards, and Sydney Park work was commended in the Small Project Architecture category. The City’s refurbishment of Sydney Town Hall was also commended in the Heritage Architecture category.
