City Crisscrossed with photography

Art and About will cover the city with photography this month with the return of sell-out event Cross Projections.

Now in its ninth year the community run event will showcase multi-media works by sixteen photographers.

“this year we have photographs spanning topics including the Queensland floods, Middle Eastern Politics and the role photographs of ex-lovers play in a break-up, there are a diverse range of stories,” said Cross Projections Co-Producer, Roslyn Sharp.

The event will host special guest speakers opening the nightly screenings; previous speakers have included photographer William Yang and Sydney Morning Herald art critic John Mcdonald.

Cross Projections first began in 2002, for experienced documentary photographers to show their stories to other artists and the public.

Police ask for help after brawl break-out in Pyrmont

The police are looking for witnesses and evidence in relation to a brawl on Pirama Road on the weekend.

Around 1a.m. last Sunday a fight erupted between two groups of men resulting in a 37 year old man suffering serious head injuries.

The authorities would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the fight or anyone with information relating to the incident.

A number of intoxicated men were arrested on the scene but many others fleeing in taxis and busses.

The police are particularly interested in talking to the taxi drivers and bus drivers who picked up men after the brawl.

Those caught and detained by police are refusing to assist the investigation and have been released until more information is uncovered.

Swords and guns in Ultimo

A man 27 year old man has been given conditional bail for weapon related offences and will appear in local court in two weeks.

Police from the City Central command arrested a man on Mountain Street Ultimo for the alleged possession of two samurai swords, a knife and a firearm.

The police were called to the scene following reports of a man acting suspiciously.

A man was spoken to and his car was searched before he was arrested and detained for weapon related offences.
