CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: WORLDS AWAY

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: WORLDS AWAY

Produced by blockbuster fiend James Cameron (Avatar, Titanic) and directed by Adam Adamson (Shrek, The Chronicles of Narnia) comes the latest 3D adventure Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away. Incorporating acts from the seven Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas shows, it fails to impress cinematically as it has done so previously live. With a mediocre narrative that has obviously been written solely to self-promote the circus acts, it feels more like a 91-minute highlight reel than a movie. Yes, the acrobatic performances are sublime and awe-inspiring, and the choice in music is ace, but the quick edits and awkward camera angles make it hard for the audience to appreciate the gravity-defying acts. More time is spent trying to work out what is going on than to fully appreciate the beauty that is Cirque du Soleil. ** (SP)
