CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA
Chandni Chowk To China follows Sidhu, a humble vegetable cutter from Chandni Chowk in Delhi, on his quest to fulfill his ‘destiny’ as a reincarnated Chinese peasant warrior. Sidhu also entertains fantasies of a destiny with Miss TSM: an Indian television spokesperson for a Chinese corporation that specialises in wacky inventions. This movie is comedy gold: like The Three Amigos, but with Bollywood instead of Hollywood, and Chinese kung-fu flicks instead of spaghetti Westerns. Akshay Kumar (Sidhu) is a hugely talented comedian, reminiscent of Adam Sandler, but with all the singing and dancing skills we would expect from a Bollywood star. This huge feature is incredible, both in its breadth and in the precision with which it makes its references. Chandni Chowk is rolling comedy, non-stop action, and drama of epic proportions all rolled into one. (Trish Roberts)
