Car share parking spaces expected to double

More on-street and off-street parking spaces will soon be installed around the City of Sydney district for users of the one of the area’s car share schemes.
The Sydney Traffic Committee this week adopted recommendations to install additional spaces in approximately 27 locations.
Although the exact location of most of the extra car parking spots will not be confirmed until public consultations are undertaken, a number of spaces have been earmarked for Darlinghurst, Potts Point, Chippendale and Pyrmont.
Transport Planner Anthony Mifsud said that local residents and businesses within a 50 metre radius of proposed locations will be consulted through letterbox drops before the spaces are installed. These notification letters will also include a general information leaflet on car share for interested residents and potential users, according to Mr Mifsud.
The Council originally approved 12 locations during the 12-month trial of car share last year, and have since agreed to support the increase use of the scheme.
There are currently three privately-operated car share schemes available in the City. They allow members to book vehicles for short periods of time – from one hour to a few days – and access dedicated parking spots 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
