CANE TOADS THE CONQUEST 3D

CANE TOADS THE CONQUEST 3D

Who would have thought these ugly, warty, pesty creatures could constitute the subject of a fascinating (and somewhat worrying) documentary? And in 3D too. This bizarrely interesting and hilarious film takes us through the history and current crisis of the cane toads’ existence in Australia, via interviews with connoisseurs, haters and lovers, as well those who met their death in an attempt to destroy them – and a couple of cane toad-addicted canines. Anyone who has felt the urge to seek out insects under rocks will enjoy the chance to see a three dimensional worm writhing in the earth and a vivid image of toads eating cockroaches in this new Mark Lewis documentary. Although more could have been said about the environmental disaster this plague is causing, the film was both fun and educational, and included some stunning cinematography. For those who enjoyed Lewis’ previous film Cane Toads: An Unnatural History, this will be a joy to watch. (HP) ***1/2
