CABARET: EL CIRCO

CABARET: EL CIRCO

Romance is a dish best served French-Circus style. Runaways, you won’t think twice about joining this cutting-edge, avant-garde portrayal of a Moulin Rouge-esque evening flamboyantly titled, El Circo. Situated within the colourful chandelier-clad walls of Slide Bar Cabaret Club, you will leave bedazzled, splendidly perturbed almost, by tastefully ‘camp’ memories of Poirot-boy cheekiness, and a humorous drag compere known as Verushka Darling, who introduces each course of the traditional novel cuisine as if it were a gastronomic aria in some rambunctiously delicious rock opera. Magicians wow spectators with outstandingly deceptive tricks. An Indian ‘male’ belly dancer dances like a genie fresh from a lamp and beautiful female contortionists, spin like semi-naked decorations from the high ceilings of this bar, previously converted from a high street bank, to a disco-dancing-hub also known to be a pleasure-dome for cabaret  created by performer Marc Kuzma. Kuzma says, “Romance and the circus have always been intertwined. Excitement, wonder, mystery and new discoveries are its hallmark; and running away to the circus was always a fantastic dream. It’s here the inspiration … was born.” Watch out, all is not what it seems, the waiters could be more than waiters and the truffle scented balloons, once pierced, will send you into a state of total transient chic, as if you were really sitting in some waxy old French theatre in the darkest, daintiest depths of gay gay Paris!

Every Sunday 7-11pm, Slide, 41 Oxford St Darlinghurst, $90 (includes degustation), 8915 1899, elcirco.com.au
