Major Bus Timetable Changes Confirmed For Sydney From June 21
Transport for NSW has confirmed major changes to Sydney’s bus network, including the removal of several existing routes and the introduction of new services as part of a broader timetable and network redesign set to take effect from 21 June 2026.
The changes affect multiple regions across metropolitan Sydney, including the North West, South West, Inner West and Northern Beaches, with officials stating the updates are aimed at improving service frequency, simplifying connections and better aligning routes with current travel demand.
According to Transport for NSW, “Bus changes have been made to improve the network by streamlining transport services and better connecting community.”
The agency said the revisions include “additional services on key routes, timetable changes, and route changes to help provide a better-connected public transport experience.”
Among the most significant adjustments is the introduction of Route 52, which will reinstate a connection between Parramatta and the Sydney CBD via West Ryde. The service replaces former routes 500X and 500N and has been added to the All Day Frequent Network, operating at high frequency throughout the day and evening.
Several routes across the Victoria Road corridor will also be amended, including Route 501, which will now operate between Central Station and West Ryde. Additional services are planned for routes 521, 523, 524 and 525, while Route 525 will be altered to run between Parramatta, Newington and Lidcombe.
In the Hills District, a number of express services will be restructured, with some routes discontinued and others extended or replaced. Transport for NSW said the changes are intended to improve connections to Sydney Metro stations and reduce congestion on high-demand corridors.
School bus adjustments have also been included in the network-wide update, with new and modified services introduced to reflect updated school bell times and new school infrastructure opening in 2026.
Transport for NSW said updated timetables and route maps will be released closer to the implementation date, and passengers are being encouraged to plan ahead using the official Trip Planner tool.
