BRISCOE

BRISCOE

November 9th, 2012 was an exciting day for Briscoe frontman Bart Denaro. Not only did the band’s debut album hit the shelves that day, but Australia commenced the first cricket test of the summer against South Africa.

“I’m a little bit fanatical actually. Apart from music it’s my other passion.” While our conversation spent much time on the great game we did eventually get onto the important subject matter of Briscoe’s new release Forever Ago, a delightfully crafted and personal sojourn through country and bluesy indie pop. “It’s … a story of increasing expectations,” says the one-time drummer and songwriter of Sydney soul stars Kid Confucius.

“Everything that we did in [Kid Confucius]  was on such a massive scale, so I was keen to do something more modest and a bit grittier.”

Denaro also considers the transition from drum stool to the front of a band a phenomenal experience in itself.

“It’s a completely different experience; I feel like this is a second life. I’ve played big festivals as a drummer but playing in a small pub and being up front; there’s something extraordinary about it.”

On the upcoming tour Bart admits to, “nervous times … but the overriding feeling is excitement definitely.” While going on the road is at the forefront of his mind, he assures us that he’ll still be keeping tabs on the cricket scores.
