Thousands will flock to Coogee Beach to ring in the New Year tonight to see the firework display off the northern headland.

The fireworks will take place at 9pm and run for a total of fifteen minutes.

Mayor of Randwick Philipa Veitch said coming to Coogee Beach with friends and family is a great way to watch the fireworks and celebrate the New Year in a relaxed way.

“There are plenty of great vantage points on the beach and in the surrounding parks. Plus, there will be some fun entertainment along the Coogee Beach promenade from 2pm,” she said.

“If you plan on visiting the area, we encourage you to walk, cycle or take public transport or rideshare as parking is very limited.”

In a statement, Randwick Council reminded the public to arrive early to secure a good spot.

Glass, smoking and alcohol are banned on Coogee Beach and surrounding reserves. Council is also reminding members of the public to dispose of their rubbish responsibly.

For people with disability, parking is available on Coogee Oval, but must be accessed before road closures are put into place.

It is also recommended that pets be kept locked at home, so as not to disturb them with the fireworks.

Vantage points around Coogee include:

  • Goldstein Reserve, Coogee: located right next to the beach
  • Coogee Beach on the sand
  • Grant Reserve & Trenerry Reserve
  • Clovelly Beach Car Park
  • Burrows Park Headland
  • Local restaurants and hotels: many local establishments host excellent New Year’s Eve events within sight of the fireworks
