BRIDIE KING – BLUE IVORIES

BRIDIE KING – BLUE IVORIES

Blue Ivories is Bridie King’s third solo album. A life long love of blues and jazz music is very evident. Also previously working with such acts as The Hippos and the Boogie Kings. King has also doubled as the producer on this recording. With a dialled back arrangement and only double bass and drums accompanying the keyboards, King is allowed plenty of room to shine. All the tracks except the last originals are carefully selected covers that are re-worked. A highlight is the Donovan Leitch classic Mellow Yellow. This album can’t help but put a smile on your face. This exactly what the blues is supposed to do, cheer you up. Bridie King’s love and enthusiasm for her music and the fact that she and the other musicians in this recording are having a ball is impossible to not to recognise. It really shouldn’t matter but unfortunately it does, this album with its old hat style cover might scare off a lot of people that would otherwise enjoy it. It’d be great to play in the background with some guests over, but you might have to hide the CD artwork. It’ll clash with your funky furnishings.
