Breakfast just acquired a certain Vibe

‘What matters?’ An esoteric question on first acquaintance, perhaps, but the youthful team at Vibewire reckon it’s possible to get an answer within five minutes – or at least raise some intriguing possibilities.

That’s the basic premise behind fastBREAK, “a power breakfast of insights, innovation and inspiration”. Sparking discussion and challenging minds is the order of the day, all in a rapid-fire sequence of five-minute interactive talks.

The initial fastBREAK was hosted in May 2008, in conjunction with the National Innovation Festival, attracting more than 80 delegates including artists, entrepreneurs, students and professionals from a variety of backgrounds. This new series of conversations is intended to pick up where that delegation left off, inviting guests to share ideas over breakfast.

For the launch event, five guest speakers from a range of backgrounds will share their views on ‘What matters’. They include Strategy Director at McCann Sydney, Mark Pollard; Sydney creative Jess Cook; communications freelancer Jess Miller; online entrepreneur Michael Fox; and comic creator and illustrator, Matthew Hunyh.

“If you don’t embrace youth within your organisation, then you’re not embracing the future,” says Vibewire’s Executive Director Annie Le Cavalier. “You’re also not preparing for it – that’s why an event like fastBREAK is so exciting. It’s crucial that we listen to the wisdom and insight that young people inherently bring to the table, because they’re the ones discontently inheriting the world as we know it.”

The fastBREAK series launches on Friday, February 26, with a further four initial presentations planned for the last Friday of each month until June. Location is the Powerhouse Museum’s Boiler Room Mezzanine in Ultimo. Cost is $8, including a light breakfast; the event will last an hour, kicking off at 8am.
