‘Bloody silly’ flowers

Seen in Kings Cross, Sunday afternoon: An Irish backpacker couple were crossing the William Street land bridge where Council has a temporary wall of flowers that block the view. They are watered daily and the water spills out onto the grey granite which, as locals know, becomes slippery as ice when newly wet. The thong-shod girl went arse over, falling heavily and badly grazing her forearm. The boyfriend exclaimed: “What a very silly surface, we wouldn’t have that in Dublin.” Then he pointed to the flower wall and added: “We wouldn’t have those bloody silly ’tings either.” MG
