Billboard in Sydney’s inner west urges PM to ban fossil fuels

A billboard in Sydney’s inner west is calling on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to implement a nationwide ban on fossil fuels in the wake of rising temperatures.

Placed in St Peters, in the Prime Minister’s electorate, the billboard’s sarcastic message reads: ‘Everything is fine (according to big coal and gas)’.

Comms Declare, the group behind the billboard, aims in their message to highlight the hypocrisy of advertising messages by the companies fuelling extreme weather.

Comms Declare Founder, Belinda Noble said “We can’t reduce emissions while multinational coal and gas companies use advertising, sponsorships and PR to undermine the transition.

“Inner West and Sydney Councils have voted for a Fossil Ad Ban and its time the local federal member rids all our streets, sports, schools and arts of fossil fuel greenwashing and misinformation.”

According to a statement released by Comms Declare, “Burning fossil fuels is the main reason Australia’s heat waves are more severe and why 2023 was the hottest on record.”

The billboard at 377 Princes Highway holds a potent message, namely that banning fossil fuel is a small but logical step towards achieving a renewable economy.

The Prime Minister had previously ruled out banning fossil fuel projects, saying it would negatively impact the economy.
