Bilingual? We Want You: NSWEC

BY JOSHUA MAULE

The NSW Electoral Commission (NSWEC) has begun recruiting people to work in polling places at the upcoming local government elections.
Electoral Commissioner Colin Barry says among those who are most needed for the September elections are bilingual residents.
?We are particularly interested in bilingual people who speak a community language such as Chinese, Arabic, Italian, Greek, Vietnamese, Spanish, Hindi, Korean, Tagalog and Macedonian,? Commissioner Barry said.
Election staff can earn over $300 for the day, and will be responsible for issuing ballot papers, acting as ballot box guards and helping count ballot papers after voting closes.
The NSWEC are seeking over 10,000 staff to work in more than 2000 locations on Saturday September 13.
?This is a great opportunity for young people who are on the electoral roll and looking for casual work to help in the administration of one of the State?s most important democratic events,? Commissioner Barry said.
People who worked during last year?s State or Federal Elections can expect to be contacted by the Commission in early June, but others who are interested should use the NSWEC website, www.elections.nsw.gov.au.
