Over a decade old and still standing firm as one of the few inner city pubs to resist a renovation (although the famous laksas were recently replaced with a more on-trend burger menu), the Old Fitz in Woolloomooloo is more than just a pokey pub with character. It’s also the home of one of Sydney’s best-loved independent theatres. The 58-seat space, run by the Tamarama Rock Surfers, is not only a platform for emerging directors and playwrights, but it doubles as an affordable-yet-cultured date spot! (Jerico Mandybur)
