Sometimes the obscurity and po-mo pretention of contemporary art makes one want to jump off Duchamp’s ‘Fountain’ in the hope of a broken arm. Art cynics roll-on-up. I challenge you not to be charmed by at least one of the sculptures in this annual exhibition. And even if my challenge is met, it’s the perfect opportunity to appreciate some breathtaking coastal views (or walk your dog… how’s that for practical?) Sculpture by the Sea combines nature, beauty, conceptual depth and artistic skill in a versatile public exhibition that Sydney can be proud of. (Madeleine Clarke)
