Abandon hope all ye who enter here. The smorgasbord of quality European fare and boutique beers is not the only reason revellers regularly flock to Essen in inner city Sydney. Would-be gourmands show up in droves to take up Essen’s infamous schnitzel challenge, but few survive. The likenesses of those conquering champions adorn the walls of this chalet-style restaurant while images of those who tried and failed can be found on the way to the restrooms.
