As with any building along the harbour foreshore, the MCA possesses a dual appeal for both locals and visitors. You can’t go wrong when art comes with spectacular Sydney harbour views. White walled but warm, the exhibition spaces are both open and enclosed – a variation which allows the viewer to lose themselves within the gallery as well as enabling a more private viewing for works such as video or sound installations. The MCA hosts visiting exhibitions and regularly provides a location for local events such as the Biennale. Permanent collections include significant bodies of Aboriginal art as well as individual works by international and local artists including Howard Arkley, Imants Tillers, Barbara Kruger and Ray Lichtenstein.
