BELLES WILL RING – CRYSTAL THEATRE

BELLES WILL RING – CRYSTAL THEATRE

Crystal Theatreis the Blue Mountains’ Belles Will Ring long-awaited third release. This follows their 2007 debut album Mood Patterns and their second, seven track mini-album Broader than Broadway. The new self-produced album continues in a similar vein. Influenced by the rural feel of  NSW’s Oberon and surrounds – Crystal Theatre takes its name from the theatre in tiny town of Portland. The Belle’s combine a mellow blend of modern indie folk/rock with influences of yesteryear. Psychedelia, surf-rock riffs and even a little bit of country blend well with the bands real strength, strong vocalists with  some sweet and sometimes haunting harmonising. Come To The Village has a distinct Stone Roses feel to it courtesy of a funky walking bass and some Squire-esque guitar, but these moments of reference are fleeting as the band continues to forge their own sound. The subtle and occasional inclusion of flute and brass mix it up sonically without ever losing the over all feel and continuity of the recording. Belles Will Ring aren’t as trendy and referential as bands like Cloud Control, which means they take a little more time to soak into your consciousness, but Crystal Theatre is worth the time.
