BEAMS ARTS FESTIVAL

BEAMS ARTS FESTIVAL

“I really see Chippendale as a vibrant creative hub,” says art consultant, curator, restaurateur and BEAMS Arts Festival Director, Nicky Ginsburg.

Locked between the industrial facades of former breweries and the traffic grid-locked Abercrombie and Regent Streets is a series of streets and laneways playing home to an ever-growing creative community in the inner-city suburb of Chippendale.

“There are so many creatives, artists, designers and production companies here. It would be fantastic to see the Chippendale Creative Precinct evolve into a culturally rich destination rivaling that of Chelsea in New York,” says Ginsburg.

This year over 350 Chippendale creatives will be presenting light, video, performance, dance, animation, sculpture and music works in the area’s nooks and crannies around the themes of “Revitalisation” and “New World Cities”.

Hip hop dancers Dancekool will perform, theatrical innovators Erth Physical Theatre will enthral with giant puppetry, and graffiti artist James McCallum tackles smart phone augmented reality art.

There’ll be food from some of Sydney’s best eateries and food trucks and a unique communal outdoor dining table. For one bright night the BEAMS Arts Festival will be a cultural and sensory experience in the heart of Chippendale. (CN)
