Art and About in the city

Art and About in the city

The leafy canopy of Hyde Park’s Grand Central Walkway will play host to a night of free celebrations this Thursday, with the launch of Art & About. Kicking off at 5.30pm, the evening will include live performances from Indigenous singer/songwriter Emma Donovan, and electronic dance beat group Tijuana Cartel.

The evening will also include a traditional Aboriginal smoking ceremony at 6pm, by the Jannawi Dance Theatre, and the Sydney Life photography exhibition. The latter features an array of large-scale images from established photographers alongside up-and-coming new artists, depicting portraits of “the domestic and the iconic, melancholy, playfulness and humour.” Artists on exhibition include Tamara Dean, Ali Nasseri, Andrew Goldie and Dean Tirkot.

Also launching on Thursday is ‘Laneways: By George! Hidden Networks’, a series of art installations in eight interconnected CBD laneways. Focusing on the changing role of public spaces, the creators included artists, urban designers, musicians, poets, and even a scientist and lawyer.
