Arsonist ignites Darlinghurst

Kings Cross detectives are investigating a serial arsonist in the area. Spot fires have been lit at the Academy of Dance on Kirketon Avenue Darlinghurst, and the St George apartment building in Darlinghurst Road, both with fires stuck through letterboxes.

The Westbury apartments have suffered six spot fires to date, five on different levels set on or near wooden fire banisters, says resident Christina Litchfield.

‘This is being taken very seriously by both fire and police,’ she said. ‘The last attack in the rubbish and electrical rooms involved two firetrucks, closure of Darlinghurst Road, ambos and heaps of coppers.’

Kings Cross police were unaware of any connection between these fires and a Woolloomooloo man arrested and charged with starting bushfires in Sutherland last week.
