Are drugs the answer for obesity?

With so many ‘miracle’ obesity cures on the market, it’s tempting to ask whether it really is possible to circumvent the traditional advice of ‘healthy eating and exercise’. With some 52 per cent of women and 67 per cent of men in Australia overweight or obese, and the issue listed as one of Australia’s eight national priorities in health, it is high time for a debate on the issue. A public meeting at the Convention Centre in Darling Harbour on Sunday, November 29, will wrestle with the question of whether there is a place for drugs in the treatment of obesity.

The meeting is hosted by the Australasian Society of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacologists and Toxicologists and will be held between 1.30 and 2.30pm on November 29. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP by November 26 to ascept@meetingsfirst.com.au, or call 0405 066 022.
