Aquatic Centre turns two

Two years and nearly half a million visitors after its opening, the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre in Ultimo is to host an open day on Sunday, August 30. Celebrations for the Centre’s second birthday will include free entry between 10am and 4pm, an inflatable pool obstacle course, outdoor cycling class, free introductory private swimming lessons and fitness classes, a barbeque, and for kids, face painting and clowns.

“The centre is proud of the high quality of programs and services offered to local workers and residents,” said Centre Manager Adrian Heffernan. “We look forward to contributing to a happier and healthier community in the coming years.”

The $40m centre, officially opened by Lord Mayor Clover Moore on August 26, 2007, was designed by iconic architect Harry Seidler, and includes a 50m lap pool, leisure pool, fitness centre and steam room.
