With her first feature, Angèle & Tony, Alix Delaporte wanted the audience ‘to be carried away’ by the characters’ journey. She achieves just this in this powerful, unassuming love story. Angèle, a troubled young girl on parole, is looking to rebuild her life and claim back her son from the care of her parents-in-law. Answering a personals ad, she meets Tony, a lonely fisherman who lives with his mother. Convinced that marriage will help persuade the judge she can care for her child, she talks Tony into letting her stay in his family home and help with the fishing business. Soon the small fishing town embraces her and what started as a contrived plot becomes the genuine discovery of love. This wonderful film is full of simplicity, endearment, and magnificent acting.
