AICE ISRAELI FILM FESTIVAL

AICE ISRAELI FILM FESTIVAL

Taking place in Melbourne and Sydney between August 25th and September 6th, the sixth season of AICE Israeli Film Festival is once again celebrating the best in Israeli cinema. A proud initiative of the Australia Israel Cultural Exchange (AICE), an organisation dedicated to furthering the cultural ties between Australia and Israel, this year’s festival concentrates on the importance of family with seven new features, and four documentaries. Lost Islands, Israel’s most successful film of 2008, both commercially and critically, tells the story of twin brothers forced to choose between family loyalty and personal desire. On a lighter note, Yiddishe Mama documents a mother’s attempt at preventing her son from making what she believes is the biggest mistake of his life – marrying his Ethiopian love. Brutally raw and honest, with a beautifully organic sense of humour throughout, this is a definite highlight of this festival – an absolute must for lovers of fine international cinema.

Sept 1-6, Palace Academy Twin, 3a Oxford St Paddington, $14-17, 9361 445 or palacecinemas.com.au
