A-head of its time: Biennale of Sydney 2008

From the extreme and arresting, to the wild and whacky, the Biennale of Sydney celebrates its 35th birthday with a new line up of exhibitions, artists, and events like you’ve never seen before.
With the theme Revolutions – Forms That Turn, the program explores the impulse to revolt, a desire for change, and seeing the world differently.
Featuring more Australian artists than ever before, the Biennale this year will include the use of the magical Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour as a major exhibition site for the very first time, and premiere a world-first online venue.
More than a quarter of a million visitors are expected to visit the various exhibitions and events – including over fifty newly created artworks presented alongside some of the world’s most ground-breaking art, an artistic treasure hunts for kids, architectural tours of suburban Sydney, and a chance to meet the parents of exhibiting artists.
Many works in this year’s exhibition will be interactive to challenging regular thinking and allow the discovery of new ways of looking at life.
Organisers say to expect the unexpected from this year’s exhibited works: they turn, spin, go in reverse, mirror, make noise, and even blow up!
The Biennale of Sydney 2008 will run from June 18 to September 7. Full details of all events are available at www.bos2008.com.
