Ageing population creates need for new services

A draft plan proposing new services and facilities for the elderly will soon go on public exhibit, after it was endorsed by the City of Sydney Council this week.
The plan, entitled ‘The Next Generation – A Blueprint for Aged Services and Facilities 2008-2018’, reveals a significant decline in attendance at the Council’s current Aged Activity Centres, and recommends more services and flexibility to meet the needs of the ageing population.
These services include adventure programs such as hiking and kayaking, as well as learning opportunities and computer classes.
The Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP said that changes to existing services will not take place until replacement facilities and services are established, along with transport to ensure they are accessible.
