A 75 year-old man dies after falling 10 metres in a construction site

A 75 year-old man has died after falling 10 metres onto concrete in a construction site in Summer Hill.

Ambulance and police were quickly called to the scene in Western Sydney’s suburb of Summer Hill, around 4pm on Tuesday 16th after reports came in that a man had fallen.

The man suffered serious injuries to the head, which paramedics treated on site, before rushing him to Sydney’s Royal Alfred hospital. However, it was reported that he died around 10pm.

Police on the scene interviewed construction workers as bystanders watched on soberly. 

A spokesperson for NSW Police spoke with City Hub, stating that “Safework NSW have been notified.”

About 4pm (Tuesday 16 May 2023), emergency services were called to Smith Street, Summer Hill, following reports of a workplace accident,” the spokesperson said.

“Officers attached to Burwood Police Area command attended and were told a man had fallen about 10m from a construction site. NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 75-year-old man for head injuries before taking him to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.”

“About 10pm, police were notified by the hospital the man had died.

Under the DailyMail’s article, people have commented and questioned why he was doing such dangerous work at his age.

“75 on a [construction] site, where are the young fellas?” one person wrote.
