Evil Dead Rise – REVIEW
There is nothing original about the synopsis of this movie but it is indisputably one of the most genuinely terrifying supernatural horror films of all time!
This is the fifth stand-alone chapter in the Evil Dead franchise which is anticipated to become a major drawcard for movie-goers of all ages who enjoy being scared witless.
When a strong earthquake isolates a family living in a Los Angeles apartment block a dusty and devilish book is discovered with three vinyl records from the depths of the building, which will unleash flesh-possessing demons upon the family.
The priority of the movie is to implant fear and apprehension from the onset with hideously horrific scenes occurring even before the opening credits. Audiences are terrorized to full potential through unimaginable graphic violence and blood curdling scenes like never seen before.
Reportedly 6,500 litres of fake blood were utilised in the making of this movie ensuring that grotesque scenes of intense barbarity are forever locked in the minds of moviegoers.
When the innocent little girl lovingly asks her mother who is possessed by a demon, “What’s wrong with you mummy?” audiences should feel unsettled in anticipation of what unimaginable brutality the forthcoming scene unashamedly brings.
What stands this horror flick aside from others is that the cheesiness which normally accompanies movies in this genre is absent. Production values are also extremely high and the ensemble cast deliver competent performances.
The jump scare moments will have terrified audiences at the edge of their seats screaming senselessly but this movie is reminiscent of a rollercoaster ride – you desperately want to get off but you don’t really.
Ultimately Evil Dead Rise is not for squeamish audiences. It’s an effective, atmospheric, and incredibly disturbing non-stop scream-a-thon that won’t have audiences returning for an encore screening!
