MUSICAL: EVERY SINGLE SATURDAY

MUSICAL: EVERY SINGLE SATURDAY

Choreographer and Bondi local Daniella Lacob says musical Every Single Saturday is unlike any other – its charm is that it appeals to everyone from football fanatic to football ignorant. Four football parents – with four very different agendas – meet at the final game of the year when hopes and fears are present in equal measure. What happens next is, “Familiar and funny, moving, sometimes shocking and ultimately inspiring.” Lacob was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, showing a passion for dance from as early as two-years-old. She studied ballet, contemporary dance and drama in South Africa, Austria, and at NIDA in Sydney, and today works in a range of capacities as actress, dancer, director-choreographer, and tutor of the performing arts for young people, adults and corporate houses. Lacob describes growing up in South Africa in the 1990s as, “Making her witness to the power of the arts to instigate societal change and challenge people.” This concept fascinated Lacob and continues to, “Inform her artistic voice.” She says her, “Deep-seated desire to tap into human experience is a signature on all my work whether new devised works or musical numbers,”and was awarded the title of, “The innovative and poignant young-and-upcoming choreographer of the year” (Star Newspaper 2006; South Africa). On working as the choreographer for Every Single Saturday, Lacob says, “It is a rare privilege to be asked to choreograph a new Australian musical of such high quality, with a cast and team of exceptional skill, touching and original narrative, and breathtaking score.” She describes the cast and crew, Writer-Director Joanna Weinberg, Musical Director Paul Geddes, and actors Sarah Grenfell, Melanie de Ferranti, Geoff Sirmai, and Matt Young, as, “Super talented and it’s a pleasure and honour to work with them. We make a great team – like Liverpool in the 80s”.
