Five Arrests over Opera House protest

A group of individuals will appear in court in November for trespassing after a protest on the Sydney Opera House against mass retailer Harvey Norman.

Police received a call on Saturday morning about a number of people attempting to scale the Opera House sails.

Police from The Rocks attended the scene while officers from the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit spoke with those on the sails.

Two women were subsequently arrested for allegedly refusing directions to leave the premise by security officers.

Another two women and a man climbed the sail and hung a banner on the building’s North-Western side.

The banner said: “No Harvey No! Stop selling Aussie forest destruction.”

The protest was against Harvey Norman’s alleged use of native Australian forest timber in their furniture.

The trio were arrested, charged with trespass and granted conditional bail.

Short Cut to Sydney Park and St Peters Station

Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP has announced a new pedestrian link will improve resident access between Sydney Park and St Peters Station.

City of Sydney are planning to use the strip of land between Zenix Apartments and Sydney Park Village to extend the existing footpath and connect Coulson Street to Sydney Park Road.

The pedestrian link is part of the City’s Liveable Green Network plan and will include seating and lighting and Ms Moore has ensured it will not impact on the amenity of nearby homes.

The plan will be on public exhibition until Friday October 28.
