3D World changes hands

Street Press Australia, owner of rock’n’roll paper Drum Media, has bought Sydney’s 3D World, the club culture free weekly mag that first hit the streets in 1989.

3D World founder/publisher Jonathan Morris said the brand’s strong association with the dance music industry made it an ideal fit with the Street Press Australia (SPA) music street press.

SPA now has music titles all over the country. It began in 1999 when Craig Treweek and Brian Peacock bought Melbourne streetpaper Inpress from Joe Cipriani, current publisher of Perth-based Rural Press (Fairfax) publication Xpress.

Treweek’s brother Leigh joined the company in 2000, buying Peacock’s share of the business in 2005. An expansion in 2006 introduced a third partner, Julius Larobina, managing director of B2B publisher Tempo Media.

In February 2006, SPA bought Drum Media and launched a second Drum in Perth later that year. And a business arrangement with Adelaide’s Rip It Up in June 2008 led to the purchase of Queensland-based Time Off.
