2 DAYS IN NEW YORK

2 DAYS IN NEW YORK

2 Days in New York is Julie Delpy’s sequel to the 2007 hit, 2 Days in Paris. The protagonist, Marion, (Julie Delpy), has broken up with Jack, and is now living with her boyfriend, Mingus (Chris Rock), in New York. The relationship is complicated by the presence of his daughter and her son, but seems solid until Marion’s French family visits and chaos ensues.

Marion’s father (Albert Delpy) is blunt, clumsy and monolingual, her sister (Alexia Landeau) is an exhibitionist, her boyfriend, (Alex Nahon) a bluntly spoken clown. The family have horrific manners and constant stream of French vitriol poisons the air from their arrival at the airport with a parcel of rank smelling sausages.

The film uses razor sharp editing to maintain the humour and Rock’s soliloquies to a cardboard Obama are a highlight. A delightful romp which avoids the clichés of the genre, 2 Days in New York is a wonderfully funny romantic comedy. (LR) ***1/2
