WINTER PARK – SUNDAY MORNING

WINTER PARK – SUNDAY MORNING

Melbourne’s Winterpark started as a studio project by Matt Ridgeway which, with the help of his friends in the live music scene, evolved into a collaborative live effort. Their sound seamlessly blends a whole host of genres together to create some form of pop acoustic electronica that is a wonderful assimilation of laptop sounds and live instruments. The atmospheric opening track A Movie Ending introduces us to the album with its pacey drums, twinkling piano, soaring guitar leads and spacey vocal harmonies. The track Hiccups is a short yet sparkly number that eases the listener into a dream before making way for the uplifting and upbeat Teenage Kicks while The Night Beetle sounds as though someone went back in time and gave the Beatles a laptop and some modern day synths. It’s a mellow album that is punctuated by more driving numbers and the album is arranged so that each track blends into the next – as though it were one long cinematic track. It’s a journey and one can’t help listening to the album without feeling as though they’re being whisked away to a dream fantasy up in the clouds. Listen to it with your eyes closed.
