Who Puts the Strawberries in Your Jam?

Kudos to Adelaide Hills producer Beerenberg who recently launched a web-based Provenance Pathway™ that allows their customers to trace the passage of their purchased product from the soil to the shelf using the barcode. Upon entering a barcode into their website, you’ll be able to find out product information including where the strawberries in your jam have been grown (with a map), the date it was made, and even the name of the cook! Managing Director, Anthony Paech reminds us: “It wasn’t long ago that ingredients weren’t even listed on labels,” but he’s taken his company and their fifty-two premium Australian home-style jams, marmalades and sauces a big step past legal labelling requirements. Anthony (one of six successive generations of the Paech family who have owned and worked on Beerenberg Farm since migrating from Germany in 1838) explains: “We pride ourselves on the naturalness, authentic flavour and texture of all our products and the move to enable our customers to find out exactly what’s in the jar takes our commitment to authenticity that one step further.” Follow your food here: www.beerenberg.com.au
