What’s happening in Bondi?

Funky Zoo

A little girl dreams herself into the zoo at night and meets delightful animal characters: Brian, a cool wombat; Glenys, a nervous kangaroo; Charlie, a loud but mystical kookaburra, and Kelly, a lazy koala. With the arrival of the girl, Stephen the lonely echidna escapes, creating mayhem. The environment outside the zoo is under threat, and these friends only have each other.

Written and directed by Ken Stewart, with upbeat rock/pop music by Stewart and Phil Paviour, it stars Jacob Thomas, Anna Passerman, Taryn Brine, Paul Bevis, Jason Dixon and Kat Holleley.

Funky Zoo is at the newly-renovated Bondi Pavilion Theatre from April 13 to 17.

Moments of Improvisation

Robbi Wymer’s Moments of Improvisation is on exhibition at Art Moment Gallery, 99 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach, until April 7. Wymer said most of the paintings have a bird entwined in the flowing forms: “I live close to the Woronora River where cockatoos, magpies, kookaburras, pelicans, cormorants, cranes and parrots are in abundance. I could not ignore their presence.”

At the Chapel

Hugh Drake’s exhibition at Ruby’s Place will open at 7pm on Friday April 3.

Drake said his artworks evolve from experimentation with various media: “I’m fascinated by the alchemical nature and behaviour of paint and ink on various kinds of surfaces.”

The exhibition will hang until May 1 at Chapel by the Sea, 95 Roscoe St (cnr Gould St).
